Fans are furious with the BCCI for neglecting ODI cricket in favour of T20s. Once the pride of white-ball cricket, India’s home ODI series against top teams now feel like a distant memory, leaving the format under serious threat.
ODI Cricket Losing Space
In recent years, T20Is and Tests have dominated India’s schedule. Home ODIs against Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa, which once drew huge crowds, are now sidelined. Instead, BCCI offers packed T20 calendars with just two or three ODIs added.
Cash Over Cricket?
Critics accuse BCCI of prioritising revenue over responsibility. As the richest board, fans say it is their duty to protect the ODI format, especially with the Cricket World Cup relying on it. Instead, the board focuses on short-format profits.
ODI Format in Real Danger
ODIs once defined white-ball cricket, but the current imbalance is alarming. If India continues limiting 50-over games, the format risks fading away entirely. Ironically, the casualty won’t be Test cricket but ODIs, the backbone of past World Cups.
