IPL: GT Into Final! Riyan Behind RR’s Elimination?

Gujarat Titans entered the IPL 2026 final after defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 at Mullanpur. Chasing a massive target of 215 runs, GT completed the chase with eight balls remaining and registered the highest successful run chase in IPL playoff history.

With this victory, Gujarat Titans will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2026 final on May 31. The thrilling contest has already created huge excitement among cricket fans ahead of the title clash.

Rajasthan Royals started strongly after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a brilliant knock under pressure and almost carried the innings single-handedly with a stunning 96 off 47 balls.

Vaibhav smashed eight fours and seven sixes and kept RR in control for most of the innings. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 45, while Devon Ferreira’s explosive 38 off 11 balls helped Rajasthan Royals post a huge total of 214/6.

Despite putting up a strong score, Rajasthan Royals struggled badly with the ball. Many fans criticised captain Riyan Parag for poor field placements, confusing bowling changes, and the lack of a captain’s innings in such an important match.

While chasing 215, Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan completely dominated the Rajasthan Royals bowling attack. The pair added 167 runs for the first wicket, setting the highest opening partnership record in Qualifier 2 history.

Sai Sudarshan scored a quick 58 off 32 balls before getting dismissed in an unusual manner after hitting the stumps with his bat while attempting a shot. A similar dismissal had also happened earlier during Qualifier 1 against RCB.

After Sudarshan’s wicket, Shubman Gill continued attacking and delivered one of the best innings of the season. The GT captain smashed 104 runs off just 53 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes.

Washington Sundar contributed 16 runs, while Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten on 17 off nine balls to finish the chase comfortably. Gujarat Titans have now reached the IPL final for the third time in the tournament’s history.

However, the final challenge against Royal Challengers Bangalore will not be easy. RCB had earlier dominated Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1, but GT now have a chance to bounce back and take revenge in the biggest match of the season.
