Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets in the 42nd match of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. GT won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that helped them control the game early.
RCB were bowled out for 155 runs in 19.2 overs after a sudden batting collapse. The innings began well with Virat Kohli attacking Kagiso Rabada with five consecutive boundaries. He scored 28 off 13 balls before getting dismissed.
Jacob Bethell, opening in place of Phil Salt, managed only 5 runs and added early pressure on RCB. Devdutt Padikkal looked steady and scored 40 off 24 balls, trying to stabilise the innings during a difficult phase.
RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals which stopped any momentum. Rajat Patidar scored 19 runs, but his dismissal created debate due to a controversial catch by Jason Holder that was still given out by the umpire.
Jitesh Sharma continued his poor form with just 1 run. Tim David scored 9, Krunal Pandya added 4, and Romario Shepherd made 17, but none could build partnerships or take the innings forward.
The lower order also struggled to contribute effectively. Venkatesh Iyer, playing as an impact player, scored 12 runs, while Josh Hazlewood was dismissed without scoring, leaving RCB with a below par total.
Gujarat Titans bowlers delivered a disciplined performance throughout the innings. Arshad Khan was the standout with 3 wickets for 22 runs. Jason Holder and Rashid Khan picked up 2 wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada took one each.
Chasing 156, Gujarat Titans got off to a strong start and maintained control despite losing a few wickets. They scored 12 runs in the first over and ended the powerplay at 69 for 2, staying ahead of the required rate.
Shubman Gill led the charge with a quick 43 off 18 balls, while Jos Buttler supported him with 39 off 19 balls. Their aggressive approach ensured GT remained in command during the chase.
GT lost a few wickets in the middle overs, including Buttler, Washington Sundar, and Jason Holder. Sundar scored 12 off 12 balls and Holder added 12 off 10, but the result was never in doubt.
Gujarat Titans completed the chase in 15.5 overs, finishing at 158 for 6 and winning with 25 balls remaining. The match was played in front of a record crowd of 90,865, the highest attendance of IPL 2026 so far.
