India won the toss and decided to bat first, but they lost Sanju Samson early after he scored just two runs. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who opened the innings, made 15 off nine balls before being dismissed. Abhishek Sharma then took charge of the innings with a quick 61 off 28 balls, hitting three fours and seven sixes.
After Abhishek’s dismissal, captain Shreyas Iyer scored 21 off 24 balls, while Ishan Kishan added 20 off 18 balls. Tilak Varma then gave India the finish they needed, scoring an unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls with three fours and four sixes.
Shivam Dube also made an important contribution with 27 off 15 balls, while Axar Patel remained unbeaten on one. With these contributions, India finished on 211/6 in 20 overs. Ahmed Daniyal and Arafat Minhas picked up two wickets each for Pakistan.
Pakistan needed 212 runs to win the gold medal but lost wickets during the chase. Sahibzada Farhan scored 10 runs, Muaz Sadaqat made 23 and Usman Khan was dismissed for three. Sam Ayub added 29 before Pakistan’s middle order had to take the chase forward.
Hasan Nawaz kept Pakistan in the match with a brilliant 96 off 51 balls. He hit five fours and seven sixes, but his innings was not enough as Pakistan finished on 192/6. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar took two wickets each for India.
India therefore won the final by 19 runs and retained their men’s cricket gold medal at the Asian Games. After winning gold in 2023, India have now defeated Pakistan in the 2026 final to win the title again.
