Asia Cup Twist: India’s X-Factors Out?

India’s unbeaten run in the Asia Cup 2025 faces a major test before the final against Pakistan. Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma suffered injuries in the Super 4 clash with Sri Lanka, raising doubts about their availability for the big game on September 28.

Hardik bowled just one over before walking off. Abhishek also left the field in the same innings. Later, Tilak Varma was reported to have a hamstring strain. Although India won in a Super Over, the injuries overshadowed the result.

Updates from team management

Bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed the injuries but kept his response guarded. He said Abhishek is recovering, Hardik is under observation and will have scans, while Tilak’s situation remains unclear. Morkel expressed hope that they recover before the final.

Focus on recovery

With two days left, India cancelled training sessions. Players are focusing on recovery with ice baths, pool sessions, massages and complete rest. “The best recovery is sleep and rest,” Morkel said. Captain Suryakumar Yadav also stressed that recovery is the priority.

Possible impact on final

If Hardik misses the game, India will lose its most valuable all-rounder, hurting both batting and bowling. Abhishek’s quick starts and Tilak’s stability in the middle order have also been vital. Their absence could shift the balance in the high-pressure final.

Big question ahead

India has shown squad depth, but losing key players before facing Pakistan is a serious concern. Fans and experts now wait for the final word: Will Hardik Pandya, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma be fit in time for Sunday’s Asia Cup final?
