India Squad for New Zealand Tour 2026
The Indian selection committee has announced the Test and ODI squads for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, with Shubman Gill set to lead India in the first three ODIs and the Test series.
Shreyas Iyer will captain the side in the final two ODIs, while KL Rahul has been named vice captain for the Tests.
The squad announcement has also raised questions among fans, particularly over Mohammed Shami’s omission despite his performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s absence from both ODI squads.
India Squad for First Three ODIs:
Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna* and Kuldeep Yadav.
Prasidh Krishna’s selection is subject to fitness clearance.

India Squad for Test Series

Rishabh Pant’s selection is subject to fitness clearance.
One of the major talking points after the announcement is Mohammed Shami’s absence from both the Test and ODI squads. The experienced pacer has been performing in domestic cricket, with his Ranji Trophy performances prompting questions about why he was not selected for the New Zealand tour.
Anshul Kamboj’s inclusion in both formats has also drawn attention. Some fans have questioned the selection decisions, arguing that recent performances in domestic cricket should carry significant weight. Despite, the selectors have not publicly explained Shami’s omission in the announcement provided.
Jaiswal’s absence from both ODI squads is another talking point. The opener has been included in the Test squad but has not found a place in India’s plans for the five match ODI series.
India have named separate squads for the first three and final two matches, with Gill leading the opening games and Iyer taking over as captain for the last two.
The ODI series begins on November 4, with matches scheduled in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Mount Maunganui.
The two Test series will begin in Wellington on November 19, followed by the second Test in Christchurch from November 27 to December 1.
