Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has shared a bold view ahead of the Namibia clash. He suggested a surprising change if Abhishek Sharma does not feature in the match.
Abhishek was recently hospitalised due to viral fever and a stomach infection. With the Pakistan match coming up next, the team management may avoid taking risks and rest him against Namibia.
Srikkanth said that if Abhishek is unavailable, he would not select Sanju Samson. Instead, he wants Washington Sundar to open the innings.
According to Srikkanth, Samson has received enough opportunities but has not delivered. He believes Sundar should play now to be match ready for the crucial Pakistan game.
“If I was captain, I would think differently. Sanju is out of form. I will bring Washington Sundar and make him open. I want him ready for the Pakistan match. Sanju has got chances and he has not done anything,” Srikkanth said.
Srikkanth also stated that Abhishek playing against Namibia would be ideal. He stressed that rhythm is vital, especially for an attacking batter.
He added that if Abhishek misses out, Samson might get one more chance. However, he must make it count.
“Abhishek getting his rhythm back is very important. If he doesn’t play, it is a big loss. The only good thing is Sanju may get a chance. He has to use it well. There will be no second chance,” he said.
India’s final call for the Namibia match could shape their preparation for the high pressure Pakistan clash.
