Team India’s Weakness: Will NZ Tour Expose It Further?

India’s 2-2 T20I series draw against the West Indies has exposed a concern that the team cannot ignore ahead of the New Zealand tour.

While the batters continued to produce big scores, the bowlers struggled to stop the opposition from scoring freely.

The problem became clear in Ranchi and Hyderabad, where West Indies chased down a big target in one match and posted another huge total in the next.

India’s bowlers failed to build pressure when the opposition batters attacked, leaving the team dependent on its batting to stay competitive.

India’s win in Indore showed that the bowling attack can defend a total under pressure. Despite, one good performance was not enough to hide the inconsistency across the series.

The team needs its bowlers to deliver more consistently instead of allowing every match to turn into a high scoring contest.

The return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to India’s T20I setup has added another talking point ahead of the New Zealand tour.

The experienced pacer brings swing and control, qualities that could prove useful in New Zealand conditions. His recall also gives India another experienced option in a pace attack that struggled against the West Indies.

India’s concerns go beyond the selection of one bowler. Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav remain important options, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will also have key roles. The team needs better execution from the entire attack, particularly when batters are looking to score quickly.

India’s batting strength can help the team win high scoring matches, but it cannot solve every problem. Even a strong total becomes difficult to defend when bowlers fail to control the run rate or break important partnerships.

The upcoming New Zealand tour will give India another opportunity to address these concerns.

With Bhuvneshwar back in the T20I squad, the focus will be on whether the bowling attack can deliver more consistent performances.

The West Indies series may have ended in a draw, but it has given India a clear area to work on.

If the team wants to maintain its winning standards, the bowlers must share the responsibility instead of leaving the batters to rescue the team every time.
