India and West Indies will begin their five match T20I series on Tuesday, October 6, with the first match scheduled to take place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
India had already sealed the ODI series 2-1 after winning the first two matches in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati.
West Indies won the third ODI in New Chandigarh by five wickets, but the result came after India had taken an unassailable lead in the series.
Despite, both teams will now start with different combinations as they move from the 50 over format to T20 cricket.
Shreyas Iyer will lead India in the series, with Tilak Varma named as his vice captain.
The squad includes several players from India’s T20 World Cup winning team, including Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh. Youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is also part of the squad.
The first T20I will start at 7:00 PM IST, with the toss scheduled for 6:30 PM. The match will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network, while fans can watch the live streaming on JioHotstar.
The Ekana Cricket Stadium pitch is expected to provide some assistance to spinners.
The pitch can be slow, while the large boundaries may make it difficult for batters to score boundaries regularly. A score around 170-180 could be a competitive total if the pitch plays as expected.
The weather in Lucknow is not expected to cause any major problems. The temperature is likely to remain in the mid 20s during the match, while the chance of rain is low.
India and West Indies last played a bilateral T20I series in 2022, with India winning the three match series 3-0. The two teams will now meet again in a five match series, with the first T20I in Lucknow set to begin the contest.
