India squads for West Indies series
India have announced their squads for the three match ODI and five match T20I series against the West Indies.
Shubman Gill continuing as captain and KL Rahul named vice captain. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya have not been picked for the West Indies series.
Rishabh Pant will instead lead the Rest of India side against Jammu and Kashmir in the Irani Cup. The selectors have also handed maiden ODI call ups to Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi.
India ODI Squad vs West Indies: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (vc), Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Mohammed Siraj, Auqib Nabi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Naman Dhir.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been picked in India’s ODI squad for the West Indies series, with both continuing in the team’s plans after featuring in the recent ODI series against England.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are also back in the ODI setup. Dhruv Jurel has been picked as the wicketkeeping option alongside KL Rahul.
Pant’s omission is one of the biggest talking points from the squad announcement.
The wicketkeeper batter has not played an ODI for India since August 2024 and will now lead the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup.
Hardik Pandya has also missed out on selection. Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are not part of the ODI squad either. Shami has also not been picked in the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup.
Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi have received their first ODI call ups. Auqib was part of India’s Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour but did not make his debut, while Naman gets his first India call up.
The three match ODI series will begin in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, followed by matches in Guwahati on September 30 and New Chandigarh on October 3.
India T20I Squad vs West Indies: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav.
Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the T20I side, with Tilak Varma as vice captain. Mayank Yadav returns after missing the Afghanistan T20I series, while Kuldeep Yadav and Prince Yadav have also been picked.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are among the batting options.
Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar provide the all rounder options.
The five match T20I series will start in Lucknow on October 6. The second T20I will be played in Ranchi on October 9, followed by matches in Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
