With the IPL 2027 mini auction approaching, franchises have started reviewing their squads and possible player changes.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could release Prashant Veer to increase their auction purse, while Mumbai Indians (MI) are facing difficulties in their reported trade talks with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Hardik Pandya.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have reportedly dismissed rumours of releasing Marco Jansen despite his disappointing IPL 2026 season.
CSK are reportedly considering releasing Prashant Veer ahead of the November 15 retention deadline.
The franchise spent Rs 14.2 crore on the 20 year old Uttar Pradesh all rounder at the IPL 2026 auction, but his first season did not produce the expected results.
Prashant Veer featured in six matches, scoring 90 runs at a highest score of 43. He also failed to take a wicket, having bowled only two overs during IPL 2026.
Kartik Sharma, who was bought for the same amount, had a better season with 295 runs in 11 matches at an average of 32.77, including two half centuries.
While CSK are reportedly considering a change, PBKS have no intention of releasing Marco Jansen, according to reports. The South African all-rounder had a difficult IPL 2026 campaign, taking nine wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of over 10. He also scored 51 runs in five innings.
Despite, Jansen’s recent international performances have strengthened his position. He was named Player of the Series in South Africa’s three Test series against Australia and has reached the top of the ICC Test rankings for both bowlers and all-rounders.
PBKS had signed him for Rs 7 crore at the 2025 mega auction and are reportedly keen to continue with him.
Another major development ahead of IPL 2027 involves Hardik Pandya. KKR have reportedly renewed their interest in the MI all-rounder as they look to fill their leadership vacancy following Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement. Despite, the two franchises have not reached an agreement over a possible trade.
According to reports, MI have demanded fast bowler Harshit Rana and wicketkeeper batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi in exchange for Hardik.
KKR are reluctant to release key players such as Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku Singh. Hardik’s fitness is also a concern, as he has not played competitive cricket since the end of IPL 2026.
MI have also explored possible trade options with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and CSK. The Mumbai franchise reportedly showed interest in Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi from RR, while its interest in CSK batter Ayush Mhatre did not progress. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has also denied that the franchise held discussions over a Hardik trade.
With November 15 set as the deadline for franchises to submit their retention and release lists, the coming days could bring more clarity on these moves. The IPL 2027 mini auction is scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16.
