The World Cricketers’ Association has released a list ranking the most valued cricket leagues in the world. Surprisingly, the Indian Premier League has been placed third, which has left many fans stunned.
The Hundred secured the top position with 75.2 points. SA20 followed in second place with 68 points. The IPL was ranked third with 62.6 points, despite its global popularity.
This result has raised eyebrows, as some leagues ranked higher have links to IPL franchises. Many believe the IPL has consistently set the benchmark in franchise cricket.
The WCA CEO highlighted the need for stronger domestic leagues. He stressed better protection of players’ rights and improved standards across all competitions.
He said WCA has a broad view of global cricket through constant interaction with players. He added that while league growth is positive, there is still room for improvement.
The rankings have not gone down well with the Indian cricketing community. Many have questioned the credibility of the association and the criteria used for comparison.
The IPL continues to dominate in revenue, viewership, and player salaries. Fans believe no other league comes close to its scale and influence.
With the 19th season approaching, fans strongly feel the rankings reflect bias. Many insist that the IPL remains the undisputed leader in world cricket leagues.
