Former India all rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed concern about Abhishek Sharma ahead of the T20 World Cup semi final against England cricket team. His remarks came after India’s recent match against West Indies.
Abhishek managed just 10 runs off 11 balls in that game. After scoring a fifty against Zimbabwe team, many believed he had regained confidence. However, that rhythm did not continue in the crucial encounter.
Irfan Pathan pointed out technical flaws in Abhishek’s batting. He said the youngster’s body balance was not right while playing attacking shots. According to him, Abhishek’s back knee was bending too much and his weight was shifting backwards.
Pathan believes Abhishek Sharma is more effective when his weight stays on the front foot. He advised that this adjustment must be made quickly. With a knockout match ahead, there is little room for error.
In the previous match, West Indies posted 195 for 4 after a strong finish from their middle order. Jasprit Bumrah claimed two wickets, but a few bowlers conceded runs at crucial stages.
India were 41 for 2 in the powerplay during the chase. A solid partnership between Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings. Samson played a vital role in building momentum.
Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya added important runs later. Their contributions helped India seal a five wicket victory. The win ensured India’s place in the semi final.
Irfan Pathan also spoke about Suryakumar Yadav’s performance. He has scored 231 runs in the tournament so far. However, Pathan said he needs to deliver a big innings against top opposition.
