Jitesh Sharma has spoken about missing India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The wicketkeeper batter said the disappointment faded after a deeply personal moment changed his perspective.
Jitesh said he initially felt sad when he learned that he was not selected for the World Cup squad. Like any professional athlete, he admitted that the decision affected him emotionally.
However, the situation changed when his father’s health suddenly worsened. Jitesh revealed that his father, Mohan Sharma, passed away on February 1 after a brief illness.
The cricketer shared that he spent the final seven days of his father’s life by his side. During those days, he realised that being with his family was more important than cricket.
Jitesh Sharma said that moment helped him understand what truly mattered. He felt grateful that he was able to spend valuable time with his father and support him during the difficult period.
“My dad needed me more than the World Cup,” Jitesh said while reflecting on the emotional experience.
Instead of being part of the tournament, Jitesh watched the matches from home. He said following the games on television brought its own tension and excitement.
Despite not being in the squad, he expressed happiness for the Indian team and their performance in the competition.
After his father’s passing, Jitesh said he now carries greater responsibility within the family. As the elder son, he feels it is his duty to support his mother and brother.
Looking ahead, his focus will gradually return to cricket. With the upcoming Indian Premier League season approaching, Jitesh is expected to join the training camp of Royal Challengers Bengaluru soon.
