Brutal Trolls on Our Cricketers: Why So Much Hate?

There is no doubt about the fact that Karun Nair had worked too hard to regain his place in the Indian red-ball team by scoring tons of runs in domestic cricket.

While very few get a chance to return, Karun did, that too at the most prestigious stage he could have. But it seems like he has failed miserably to convert his chance into a success.

With back-to-back failed performances, sources reveal that Karun would now be returning to India to play for Karnataka for the upcoming domestic season.

The internet didn’t leave a second to pounce on him as soon as this news got leaked. Several social media users, even those who can’t face a single ball, expressed their opinions online.

While one mocked Karun by asking him to stick to state-level bowlers, another joked about his immense abilities to play only on flat pitches.

The mockery soon took the form of hate, as several users demanded that he ‘never show his face again’ wearing the jersey of the Indian Team.

When a player with such immense talent fails at such a crucial point, it is our responsibility as fans of cricket to at least do our part by giving words of consolation.

Instead, we seem to have taken an entirely different route by becoming brutal trolls and kicking a man while he is already down.

Such incidents only work to prove that the portrayal of empathy is not everyone’s cup of tea.
