KKR vs LSG: Super Over Drama, Shameful Calls Backfire

The 38th match of IPL 2026 between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders turned into a tense contest at Ekana Stadium. The game stayed close throughout and was eventually decided in a dramatic Super Over finish.

Lucknow won the toss and opted to bowl first, a call that worked early. Kolkata struggled to build momentum with the bat. Regular wickets slowed progress, and the batting unit failed to settle during crucial phases.

Rinku Singh stood firm amid the collapse and delivered a composed innings. He scored 83 off 51 balls, anchoring the innings with control and patience. His effort helped Kolkata reach 155 for 7 in 20 overs, a total that later proved competitive.

Chasing 156, Lucknow Super Giants never found rhythm. The powerplay brought little advantage, and the innings lacked urgency. Aiden Markram made 33, Rishabh scored 42, and Ayush Badoni added 24, but none pushed the chase forward decisively.

The match turned dramatically in the final moments. Mohammed Shami struck a six off the last ball with 7 needed, forcing a Super Over. That hit gave Lucknow a late lifeline and shifted pressure back onto Kolkata.

Lucknow’s Super Over decisions raised questions. Nicholas Pooran was sent in despite poor form, and the move failed. The team managed only 1 run and lost 2 wickets, collapsing under pressure in a critical situation.

Kolkata needed just a simple finish in response. Rinku Singh walked in and ended the contest immediately with a boundary off the first ball, sealing a memorable win for his side in clinical fashion.

The match clearly highlighted Rinku Singh’s impact. He rescued Kolkata with the bat and then calmly finished the job. His performance stood out in a game where most batters struggled to deliver.

For Lucknow Super Giants, the defeat reflected deeper issues. Poor intent during the chase and questionable Super Over decisions exposed gaps in leadership and planning during key moments of the match.
