IPL Betting Scandal Returns: Rs 10 Lakh Blow for Dhoni

Madras HC Asks Dhoni to Pay ₹10 LakhThe Madras High Court has directed Mahendra Singh Dhoni to pay ₹10 lakh for translating and typing out the contents of old CDs linked to his ₹100 crore defamation case, as reported LiveLaw.in.

The CDs reportedly contain Hindi news clips and debate programs related to the 2013 IPL betting controversy. Since Dhoni is the plaintiff in the case, the court said it is his responsibility to bear the cost of translation and transcription. Justice R.N. Manjula observed that the work would take three to four months of full-time effort by an interpreter and typist.

Dhoni had filed the defamation suit in 2014 against Zee Media Corporation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, IPS officer G Sampath Kumar, and News Nation Network Pvt Ltd, alleging that they linked him to the IPL betting scandal.

The trial was ordered to begin last year, and an advocate commissioner was appointed to record Dhoni’s evidence. With the latest order, the translation process will move ahead once the payment is made.
