IPL: MS Dhoni Not Done Yet? Raina Drops Big Hint

MS Dhoni’s IPL future has once again become a major talking point after Chennai Super Kings’ final home game of IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Many fans felt the match at Chepauk could mark the end of Dhoni’s IPL journey.

However, Suresh Raina has now given fresh hope to CSK fans. After Chennai Super Kings suffered a five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Raina revealed that he had a conversation with Dhoni about a possible return.

According to Raina, Dhoni has not fully ruled out playing in IPL 2027 despite missing the entire IPL 2026 season because of fitness issues.

Speaking to Star Sports, Raina said he reminded Dhoni that IPL 2026 should not count as a proper farewell season. He added that Dhoni mentioned his body was still weak, but he remained positive about the future. Raina also said the team was slowly coming together once again.

These comments have now increased speculation about Dhoni’s possible return next season. Fans are hoping the CSK legend can recover fully and make one final appearance in the IPL.

For most of IPL 2026, Dhoni stayed away from public attention. That is why his appearance at Chepauk before the Sunrisers Hyderabad game created huge excitement among fans.

During the toss, Ravi Shastri asked CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad about Dhoni’s availability. Gaikwad confirmed that Dhoni was still not fit enough to take the field.

Even without playing a single match this season, Dhoni remained the biggest attraction around Chennai Super Kings. The crowd erupted during the innings break when he walked onto the field for the team photograph.

After the match, Dhoni once again returned for the traditional lap of honour. He waved at fans around the stadium, creating emotional scenes at Chepauk.

The moment once again highlighted the strong bond between Dhoni and the CSK fanbase. A major part of the franchise’s popularity continues to revolve around him.

Many supporters began following Chennai Super Kings because of Dhoni. Even today, crowd reactions, jersey sales, social media activity, and overall attention around the franchise remain closely linked to him.

That connection is also one of the main reasons why the franchise continues to support him despite concerns over age and fitness.

At 44, Dhoni is currently recovering from a calf injury that forced him to miss the entire IPL 2026 season. Still, Raina’s latest comments suggest the story may not be over yet.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings remain under pressure in the playoff race. The defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad has left the five-time champions in a difficult situation.

CSK now need to defeat Gujarat Titans in their final league game. They must also depend on other match results to keep their playoff hopes alive.

For now, the biggest question among cricket fans remains unchanged. Will MS Dhoni return for one last IPL season in 2027?
