Royal Challengers Bangalore has proposed installing 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras inside the stadium. The system aims to improve fan safety and prevent overcrowding. The move comes after lessons learned from last year’s tragedy.

Rs 4.5 crore investment by RCB

RCB will bear the full cost of the project, estimated at around Rs 4.5 crore. The AI system, built with tech firm Staqu, will monitor entry and exit points. You can expect real-time alerts for crowd build-up and unauthorised access.

Real-time crowd monitoring features

The camera network will help detect congestion, restricted-area breaches, and potential safety risks. Officials can respond faster when crowds swell beyond safe limits. This setup focuses on prevention instead of reaction.

Part of RCB Cares programme

The plan falls under RCB’s RCB Cares initiative. After the 2025 incident, the team paid Rs 25 lakh to each victim’s family. The programme also covers staff training, crowd management planning, and fan safety research.

What caused the 2025 stampede

The June 2025 stampede occurred due to overcrowding and confusion over free passes. Eleven people lost their lives and 56 suffered injuries. An FIR was registered against RCB, event organisers, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

Stadium cricket put on hold

Since the incident, M Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted major cricket matches. Safety concerns forced authorities to pause large-scale events at the venue.

Bengaluru still RCB’s home

There were earlier reports of RCB shifting IPL 2026 home games to Indore, Raipur, or Navi Mumbai. This investment signals a different intent. You can see that RCB wants to bring cricket back safely to Bengaluru.
