Why Did Cricket Legends Careers End Early? Truth Revealed

Why did some of India’s biggest cricket stars lose their place in the team during the years after the 2011 ODI World Cup?

Former chief selector Sandeep Patil has now spoken about the tough calls made during his time in charge of India’s selection committee.

Sandeep Patil was the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee from 2012 to 2016. During this period, Indian cricket went through a major change, with several experienced players leaving the team as younger players got opportunities.

Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan were among the big names whose India careers came to an end during this period.

Sandeep Patil said the decisions were not his alone, as the selection panel had five members. He explained that the committee had to consider what was best for Indian cricket, even when the decisions involved players with whom they shared good relationships.

Sandeep Patil also said that the four players knew why they had to leave the team or retire.

He did not give separate reasons for each player’s exit, but stressed that selectors could not allow personal friendships to influence their decisions.

According to Sandeep Patil, the job comes with responsibility, and selectors must think about the team’s future rather than their own relationships with players.

His comments have brought attention back to a key period in Indian cricket, when the team had to move forward without several of its established stars.
