IPL Star Wants CSK Move: Done with Nepotism?

In a major shakeup ahead of IPL 2026, Sanju Samson has formally asked the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for a trade or release, according to multiple reports. The star batter and RR captain is allegedly exploring a move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), signalling the end of a rocky internal chapter.

Rift in the Royals Camp

While the Rajasthan Royals have long projected a united front, sources suggest all has not been well behind the scenes. Samson, who has led RR with both class and consistency, has reportedly been unhappy with the management’s internal decisions—especially the perceived favouritism shown to Riyan Parag.

The word “nepotism” has been thrown around in social circles, with fans and insiders alike questioning how and why Parag has enjoyed unshaken support despite inconsistent performances. This situation appears to have finally crossed a line for Samson.

CSK Keen to Welcome Samson

Chennai Super Kings are believed to be actively interested in acquiring Sanju Samson. The five-time champions are in search of a long-term solution to the post-Dhoni era, both as a batter and as a potential vice-captain—or even captain down the line.

The CSK camp, popularly known as the Whistlepodu Army, has already started buzzing at the idea of Samson donning the yellow jersey.

RR Playing Hardball

However, the transfer is far from straightforward. RR are reportedly unwilling to let Samson go for cash alone. They are likely to demand a player-plus-cash deal, or a strategic swap that strengthens their own core ahead of the new season.

Despite the tension, RR management still recognises Samson’s value—both as a leader and a top-order batter.

Will CSK Go All-In?

If the deal goes through, it could be one of the biggest trades in recent IPL history. Samson offers CSK the experience, calm temperament, and match-winning ability they need as they build a squad for life after MS Dhoni.

The ball now seems to be in CSK’s court—will they break the bank to land Sanju Samson, or will RR manage to hold on to their star?
