IND vs NZ ODI: Sarpanch Comeback on Cards?

Shreyas Iyer has resumed batting as he continues his recovery from injury. The India ODI vice captain had his first batting session since the setback on December 24 in Mumbai and trained for around an hour without any discomfort.

Pain Free and Preparing for CoE Tests

Reports say Shreyas Iyer did not feel pain during his session. He will now travel to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for a medical assessment. The CoE staff will review his progress before clearing him for competitive matches.

Injury Timeline and Missed Matches

Iyer last played during the ODI series against Australia in October. He picked up an abdominal injury on that tour. The injury forced him to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the ODI series against South Africa.

Possible Return in Vijay Hazare Trophy

There is no confirmed date for his comeback. However, the 31 year old is hoping to return for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His participation depends entirely on approval from the medical team at the CoE.

New Zealand Series Still Uncertain

A BCCI source confirmed that Iyer is pain free at the moment. His selection for the ODI series against New Zealand, starting January 11, is still uncertain. He has not been ruled out, but clarity will come only after the Bengaluru assessment.

Next Steps at the CoE

Shreyas Iyer is expected to remain at the CoE for four to six days. A final update on his availability for upcoming fixtures will be released after the medical evaluation is completed.
