Copying Kohli Backfires: All Noise, No Backing?

While it’s too early to comment on anything right now about Shubman Gill’s test captaincy for India, one thing has become fairly certain.

Skipper Gill is trying his absolute best to copy the aggressive style of captaincy that India got from its previous captain Virat Kohli.

While that may seem like a nice thing from the outside, it doesn’t seem to be working that well for our new red-ball captain so far.

One may consider Shubman’s fight with Zack Crawley as an example. Gill’s overaggressive stance revived the downed English spirit, leading to Skipper Ben Stokes bowling fiery spells that shook the Indian batting lineup.

All this means is that if one can’t back their aggression with performance, then that can’t be really termed as aggression but rather noise.

Captain Gill may need to rethink his strategy and just be himself to make sure that India gets a deserving chance to win this series by defeating England at their own home.
