IND vs SA No.3 Battle: RR Star to Replace Sai?

The battle for India’s No. 3 batting slot is heating up ahead of the India vs South Africa Test series starting November 14 in Kolkata. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly believes Dhruv Jurel’s form could force selectors to rethink the top order.

Ganguly, now President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), said the team looks largely settled but Jurel’s consistency cannot be ignored. “He’s playing well, isn’t he? Rishabh is back, and the spots are mostly taken,” Ganguly told RevSportz.

He mentioned that India’s openers, along with Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, make a strong lineup. Yet, he admitted the No. 3 position remains open, depending on whether selectors back Sai Sudharsan or give an opportunity to the in-form Jurel.

Sai Sudharsan’s Struggles Continue

Sai Sudharsan’s dip in domestic form has raised questions about his position. Despite early promise, his recent innings have lacked the control and rhythm needed at the top. Selectors now face the challenge of balancing potential with performance.

Jurel’s Strong Push for Selection

Dhruv Jurel’s back-to-back centuries against SA A have strengthened his case for promotion. His calm temperament and ability to build long innings have impressed coaches, making him a strong contender for India’s No. 3 slot in the Freedom Trophy.

India’s Top Order Test

With Sai under pressure, a reshuffle looks imminent. Promoting Jurel could stabilise the batting order against South Africa’s pace-heavy attack. As the series begins at Eden Gardens, all eyes are on the selectors’ final call.
