There has been strong criticism over Sri Lanka being named co host of the ongoing T20 World Cup along with India. A section of Indian fans feels the country should host the tournament independently. They argue that India has the highest number of cricket stadiums in the world.
The debate intensified after reports of low crowd turnout in Sri Lanka. Sparse attendance at some matches has raised concerns about revenue impact. Many fans believe this affects the overall financial performance of the tournament.
On social media, several users have urged the BCCI to press the ICC for exclusive hosting rights in future events. They feel India should not have to share hosting duties given its infrastructure strength and market size.
Some voices have taken a stronger stand on participating nations. They argue that if Pakistan or any other country has issues travelling to India, they should consider opting out instead of demanding neutral venues. This opinion has gained traction online.
At the same time, many cricket followers support multi nation hosting. They believe shared hosting helps smaller cricket boards improve infrastructure and gain global exposure. It also distributes economic and developmental benefits across regions.
If stadium numbers alone decide hosting rights, only Australia, England or India may qualify for standalone ICC events. However, expanding hosting opportunities can strengthen cricket worldwide. Balancing national interests with global growth remains the larger challenge.
