Virat Kohli has landed in a fresh controversy after a claim about his visit to Premanand Maharaj’s ashram in Vrindavan went viral on social media.
Despite, Kohli’s spokesperson has now strongly rejected the Rs 5 crore payment allegation, calling the claim completely false, baseless and factually incorrect.
The controversy began after a claim attributed to Dinesh Sharma, popularly known as Falahari Maharaj, circulated online. The allegation reportedly linked Kohli’s first visit to Premanand Maharaj’s ashram in January 2023 with an alleged Rs 5 crore payment.
Dinesh Sharma reportedly mentioned the claim in a letter addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to the allegation, a property builder lobby and a Rajasthan based private company allegedly spent the money to facilitate Kohli’s visit and increase the visibility of Premanand Maharaj.
Despite, there is no publicly available documentary evidence confirming that Kohli received Rs 5 crore for the visit.
Kohli’s spokesperson has now directly rejected the claim and said that the former India captain visits Premanand Maharaj purely because of his faith and reverence for the spiritual leader.
The statement also urged the media to verify facts before reporting or amplifying such claims.
Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma first met Premanand Maharaj at his Vrindavan ashram in January 2023 along with their daughter Vamika.
They later returned to the ashram, including a visit in 2025 after Kohli announced his Test retirement. Their association with the spiritual leader has continued, but the latest Rs 5 crore claim has now been firmly denied by Kohli’s camp.
