90% of Film Reviewers Now Seem to Be Paid!

Director C. Prem Kumar recently opened up in an interview, stating that almost 90% of reviewers in Kollywood are paid, and this practice needs to be eradicated for the betterment of the industry. This statement has since gone viral, sparking a heated debate on social media.

For the past few months, the issue of paid reviews and negative campaigns against films has been a hot topic in Kollywood. Now, Director C. Prem Kumar’s statement provides a new perspective.

C. Prem Kumar asserted that most Tamil reviews are paid and are also aimed at affecting a movie’s first-week revenue. He urged producers in the industry to take immediate action against these paid reviews for the industry’s improvement.

Furthermore, he mentioned that many people decide whether or not to watch a movie in theaters after watching YouTube reviews; therefore, negative reviews are affecting a movie’s box office collections.

Following this, netizens responded that even though C. Prem Kumar’s claims about paid reviews are largely true; such reviews wouldn’t significantly affect a movie if it were genuinely solid.

C Prem Kumar’s movies are the best example for it, as despite the reviews, his movies 96 and Meiyazhagan are celebrated by a large number of audience in theatres.

Therefore, they suggested that directors should focus more on delivering good movies rather than criticizing paid reviews.
