One Film Turns Headache for Entire Industry

Ajith Kumar’s highly anticipated Vidaamuyarchi trailer was released a few days ago, confirming that the movie is set to hit theatres on February 6th.

Initially, Vidaamuyarchi was announced for a Pongal release in its teaser. Following this announcement, several films adjusted their release dates accordingly. However, just a few days before Pongal, it was revealed that the movie’s release had been postponed.

This sudden change drew criticism from audiences and trade experts, who accused Lyca Productions of poor planning. The delay disrupted the release schedules of several medium-budget films, with some being preponed to avoid a clash.

Now, with the latest announcement of Vidaamuyarchi’s February 6th release, the pattern appears to be repeating. This unexpected decision has impacted the release schedules of two other films.

Dhanush’s directorial venture Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, initially slated for February 7th, has been pushed to February 21st. Similarly, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, scheduled for February 13th, faces challenges with screen allotments due to the overlapping release.

Trade analysts have criticized Lyca Productions for their lack of coordination and planning, emphasizing that production houses handling big-budget films should announce release dates responsibly.
