After the box office success of Good Bad Ugly (GBU), Ajith Kumar has not officially announced his next project. Director Adhik Ravichandran earlier confirmed that they will reunite after GBU. However, no formal announcement has been made so far.
Even though Adhik Ravichandran shared this update months ago, there has been no clarity on the shooting schedule. Details about the cast and crew have also not been revealed. This lack of information has led to speculation among fans and industry observers.
Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar’s 2011 blockbuster Mankatha was re-released in theatres worldwide yesterday. Adhik Ravichandran watched the film with fans at a Chennai theatre. After the show, he addressed the media and shared fresh updates on their upcoming project.
Adhik Ravichandran confirmed that the shooting of the film, tentatively titled AK64, will begin by mid February. He said GBU was made mainly for fans. He added that AK64 will be a proper commercial entertainer meant for all audiences.
There is also strong speculation that actress Sreeleela will play the female lead in the film. Reports further suggest that Mohanlal may appear in a crucial role. However, no official confirmation has been given regarding these casting details.
This update has put to rest rumours that no production house had signed AK64 due to Ajith Kumar demanding high remuneration. The director’s statement suggests that the project is moving forward as planned.
After this update, many social media users reacted strongly. Several commented that GBU succeeded despite being a fan service film. Some criticised it as a mashup and urged the director to deliver a solid commercial film this time.
Social media trackers also note that Ajith Kumar has gained strong momentum after GBU. The Mankatha re-release is turning into a sensation in Tamil Nadu. With Vijay shifting focus to politics, many see a major gap in the industry.
If Ajith Kumar sustains this momentum from GBU and the Mankatha re-release, he could dominate Kollywood again. Much now depends on AK64 and whether Adhik Ravichandran can deliver a strong commercial entertainer.
