Cult Director Slams Anirudh: Tamil Music Destroyed?

Critically acclaimed Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap, a known admirer of South Indian cinema, recently slammed Tamil music directors in an interview for their use of English lyrics in Tamil songs.

Anurag Kashyap stated that before Tamil movie songs used to be borrowed in Hindi, nowadays they didn’t make any sense to him because they were full of rock band sounds and filled with English lyrics.

Even though Anurag Kashyap did not specifically mention any Tamil music directors, netizens are assuming that he is criticizing music director Anirudh Ravichander, as he frequently uses English lyrics in his songs.

Many of Anirudh Ravichander’s recent songs feature English lyrics; for example, “The Eagle is Coming” in the movie Vikram and the majority of the songs in Vijay’s Leo. Consequently, netizens are commenting that Anurag Kashyap has slammed Anirudh for this trend.

While some people on social media are supporting Anurag Kashyap’s statement and responding that Anirudh should change his music style, others are supporting Anirudh Ravichander, viewing his songs as the new wave of music in Kollywood.

However, although Anirudh Ravichander’s initial use of English lyrics was celebrated, some Kollywood audiences now feel that it has become overused and that Anirudh should change his approach to composing songs.
