Coolie Overseas Rights: Big Price, Bigger Pressure

Rajinikanth’s most anticipated Pan-Indian movie, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is currently in the post-production stage and is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14th.

According to reports, Coolie’s distribution rights are a hot commodity in the trade, with popular distributors showing huge interest in acquiring them. Most probably, Coolie has a strong possibility of becoming the movie with the highest pre-release business ever done in Kollywood.

In this scenario, now there is strong speculation that Coolie’s overseas rights have almost been sold for a whopping amount of 90 crores, which would be the highest ever for a Kollywood movie and an official announcement regarding this is expected soon.

Following this buzz, many trade experts are responding that if the buzz is true, it will put huge pressure on overseas distributors, as any slip-up in the movie’s result would result in a terrible loss for them.

They also suggest that due to this exorbitant price, positive word-of-mouth is very crucial for Coolie. Proper promotions will be essential so that they can maximize collections from premiere advance sales.

Still, there haven’t been any official updates about this buzz and If the buzz becomes true, it remains to be seen whether Coolie will do breakeven in overseas and become a profitable venture despite the huge 90 crore price, or if it will end up as a terrible loss for the buyers upon its release on August 14th.
