Will OTT Offer Some Relief to Dulquer Salmaan’s Flop?

Dulquer Salmaan‘s high budget fantasy action film I’m Game directed by Nahas Hidhayath, was released in theatres on 3rd September and received mixed reviews from audiences and critics.

Due to the mixed word of mouth, along with Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which was released a few days before I’m Game and performed well at the box office with super positive responses, many people skipped watching I’m Game in theatres, choosing to wait for the film to land on OTT instead. Consequently, I’m Game went unnoticed and crashed at the box office, ending its theatrical run with a disaster status.

Most films nowadays are released on OTT with a 4 week window, but shockingly, I’m Game was not released for a much longer period. According to sources, for several reasons, the OTT rights of I’m Game had remained unsold.

However, it seems the OTT rights were finally acquired by the JioHotstar platform and the film is now all set to stream starting November 6th in five languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

In response to the OTT release update of I’m Game, many people on social media are commenting that I’m Game has huge potential to emerge as a successful venture on OTT.

This is because they are pointing to reviews from theatrical audiences because most of them highly appreciated the first half of the film and only noted that the second half did not match up to the first, which is why I’m Game ended up being an average watch.

Hence, based on these reviews and the fact that many films that fail at the box office often receive appreciation from OTT viewers, they claim that I’m Game might receive positive reactions from the OTT audience.

Since Dulquer Salmaan has back to back releases with Aakasamlo Oka Tara and Sri Sri in a few months, it remains to be seen whether I’m Game at least emerges as a successful venture on OTT and gives him the much needed momentum upon its release on November 6th.
