Jailer 2 Falls Short? Rs 1,000 Crore Dream Lives On

Tamil cinema has no shortage of superstars or big-budget spectacles, but the Rs 1,000 crore worldwide box-office milestone remains out of reach. Expectations were high that Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 could finally take Kollywood into this elite club. However, the latest trade estimates suggest that the film may finish its run well short of the target.

Jailer 2 has already emerged as a major box-office success, with reports putting its worldwide gross at around Rs 710 crore after 11 days. Yet, reaching Rs 1,000 crore requires a completely different level of box-office dominance. Trade estimates suggesting a final collection in the Rs 700 to 750 crore range indicate that Tamil cinema’s four-digit dream could remain unfulfilled once again.

Rajinikanth has already delivered some of Tamil cinema’s biggest commercial hits, while Vijay’s Leo and Rajinikanth’s Coolie also generated huge expectations. But none has crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark.

Now, another big combination is Raising Hopes. The much-anticipated multistarrer featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan has the star power to create enormous excitement, although its box-office potential remains unknown.

Can these two legends finally help Tamil cinema achieve the Rs 1,000 crore milestone, or will the dream continue to elude Kollywood? That remains the big question.
