Tamil Biggest Overseas Grossers: Rajinikanth Beats Vijay

Rajinikanth’s most anticipated sequel Jailer 2 directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was released in theatres on October 15th and has gone on a rampage at the box office, with positive responses from audiences.

While everyone initially believed that Jailer 2 would emerge as the first 1000 crore grosser of Kollywood, even though that did not happen due to certain reasons, the film is now all set to emerge as the new industry hit of Kollywood.

Especially overseas, Jailer 2 has now emerged as the highest-grossing Kollywood film of all time and has sealed the top position, surpassing the collection of Vijay’s Leo.

According to trade experts, until Jailer 2, Vijay’s Leo held the top position on the list of highest-grossing Kollywood films overseas with a collection of $24.2 million. However, Jailer 2 has now taken the first spot with $26.80 million in collections within just 11 days of its theatrical run.

Following Vijay’s Leo in the second position, Rajinikanth‘s Jailer holds the third position with $23.7 million, 2.0 holds the fourth position with $23 million, Ponniyin Selvan I holds the fifth position with $20.5 million, Coolie holds the sixth position with $20.0 million, Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) secured the seventh position with $18.90 million, Rajinikanth’s Enthiran holds the eighth position with $16.40 million, Ponniyin Selvan II locked the ninth position with $15.50 million and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram holds the tenth position with $15.40 million.

With 5 films in the top 10, Rajinikanth leads all other actors with the most number of highest-grossing films overseas, whereas Vijay holds the second position with just 2 films on the list.

In response to this list, many people feel it clearly proves that Rajinikanth is the greatest actor of all time in Kollywood and that without him, Kollywood would not have achieved such massive collections overseas.

However, it remains to be seen how Jailer 2 will perform at the box office in the coming days and what final numbers it will post by the end of its theatrical run.
