Kaithi 2 Shock: Why Lokesh Kanagaraj Jumping Ships?

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Kaithi, starring Karthi and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, turned into a massive blockbuster, collecting over Rs. 100 crores at the box office. The film also marked the beginning of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), a series of interconnected films. Now, Lokesh is gearing up for Kaithi 2. Pre-production is moving quickly, and shooting is expected to start in October. This time, Kaithi 2 will be produced by KVN Productions, a Kannada-based banner.

This change has surprised many in the film industry. Usually, after such a blockbuster, the original production house continues with the sequel. So, why is Dream Warrior Pictures stepping aside? Was it Lokesh’s personal choice, or a decision taken together?

Lokesh has followed this approach before. After Kaithi, his hit Vikram was produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raj Kamal Films International. Leo was backed by Seven Screen Studios. Even his earlier projects like Maanagaram and the recently released Coolie were made under different banners.

The trend shows that Lokesh prefers to collaborate with new producers for each film. He ensures that multiple production houses get a chance to be part of his projects, irrespective of industry or language.

The big question now is which Telugu production house will enter the LCU. With Lokesh planning larger action thrillers with top stars, fans are eager to see who joins this cinematic journey.
