Kollywood Is Breaking the Shells and Emerging New

The most expected rooted films of Kollywood Kottukkaali and Vaazhai were released yesterday in theatres and have acquired lots of positive responses from the audiences. The surprising factor is that although the movies don’t have any star factor and both the movies were content-oriented, they managed to pull a good occupancy in theatres.

Kottukkaali was directed by PS Vinothraj, who became popular after the international recognition of his previous movie Koozhangal. Also, Kottukkaali previously premiered at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival. On the other hand, Vaazhai was directed by Mari Selvaraj, who is known for his socialistic movies such as Karnan and Pariyerum Perumal.

Initially both the movies were planned for direct OTT Releases because usually, these sorts of more rooted and content oriented movies won’t do well in the box office collections. But both the movie teams have changed their plans and released their movies in theatres. Unexpectedly, both movies were performing well in the box office collections, and Vaazhai is performing a little higher than Kottukkaali in theatres. This is actual evidence of the evolution of Kollywood, as both movies broke the myth that more rooted and content-oriented movies would not be apt for theatre.

Tamil cinema audiences were appreciating both the movies more than expected, and also the occupancy in the theatres for these both movies indicates that if there is good content in any format, audiences will turn up more in numbers to theatres.
