Most Absurd Excuse: “GOAT Failed Because Of CSK”

Director Venkat Prabhu has combined his passion for cricket and CSK into his latest film, The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT), starring Thalapathy Vijay.

The movie’s climax, set during a CSK match at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, shows Vijay’s character racing to prevent a bomb from detonating.

Despite the high expectations, the film was a disaster in the Telugu and Hindi markets.

Venkat Prabhu is now giving excuses that the heavy CSK references may have limited its appeal outside Tamil Nadu, particularly in the Telugu states and other parts of the country.

He admitted that this might have alienated non-Tamil audiences, “Mumbai Indians and RCB fans troll me. We are all CSK fans—it’s in our blood. Maybe that’s why the film didn’t connect as well in Telugu and Hindi.”

However, this explanation feels like a flimsy and senseless excuse. He is being heavily trolled on social media for making such absurd conclusions regarding the failure of his film.

Cricket and cinema are separate worlds, and CSK has fans across the country who would have appreciated the movie if it had genuinely been good.

The real reason for the film’s failure lies in Venkat Prabhu’s outdated story, boring screenplay, and poor direction—not because of a CSK-centric climax.

It’s bewildering to see directors being so out of touch with reality, blaming audiences and external factors instead of acknowledging their creative blunders.
