Raghava Lawrence’s Mahaveer Karna: Can He Beat Prabhas?

The official announcement of actor Raghava Lawrence‘s upcoming film titled Mahaveer Karna under the direction of Telugu director Ramesh Varma is going viral on social media.

After the huge success of Jigarthanda DoubleX, Raghava Lawrence committed to two projects, which are Benz and his own directorial venture, Kanchana 4. Both of these films are currently in production and due to certain circumstances, the shooting for both projects has been heavily delayed and there is still no clarity on their release.

In this scenario, the update on Mahaveer Karna was dropped and has shocked Kollywood audiences, as it seems the film will be mounted on a massive scale with Raghava Lawrence playing the character of Karna.

In response to this update, while some people feel that if this project shapes up well, Raghava Lawrence will gain massive spotlight and his market value will elevate to the next level, others feel that the makers are taking a huge risk.

They note that other than the Kanchana franchise, none of Raghava Lawrence’s films have collected more than 100 crores and even the most celebrated film of his career, Jigarthanda DoubleX, did not cross the 100-crore mark. Hence, they feel mounting a massive film with him in the lead is a huge risk.

On the other hand, they claim that director Ramesh Varma is an outdated director with a poor track record. Therefore, they suggest that since both the actor and the director have weak track records, the makers should reconsider mounting this film; otherwise, it could end up as a huge loss-making venture for them.

Also, since Mahaveer Karna is going to be mounted as a Pan Indian project, many social media users are noting that this film will create direct comparisons with Prabhas’s Kalki. They claim that some Bollywood media labelled Prabhas as Joker for his performance as Karna in Kalki. Hence, they feel Raghava Lawrence also might be heavily trolled and fear what they will do to him.

However, all of these are just social media discussions and it remains to be seen how Mahaveer Karna will take shape and whether it will become a surprise blockbuster upon its release in the future.
