If This Chance Is Missed, 1000 Cr Is Only Dream

If there is one thing that Tamil cinema is so desperately lacking, it would be one solid Rs 1000 crore grosser at the box office. Not a single Tamil film has come even remotely close to this mark at the global box office.

However, things could take a positive turn with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. This is one of the very few Tamil films that has the right prospect to become a Rs 1000 crore grosser.

Needless to say, the film will have to ultimately gain the attention of the Hindi audience if it is to come anywhere close to the mentioned mark.

Box office wise, Jailer had very little impact on the Hindi market, which is a bad thing. The only hope here is that the Hindi audience would have watched the film in big numbers after the OTT debut.

The more Jailer penetrates in the Hindi market through OTT, the more the chances of the sequel attaining any real push from the Hindi audience.

What is for certain is that Jailer 2 will be greatly amplified by the Tamil and Telugu audiences who had earlier backed the first part as well. There will be substantial contribution from Kerala and Karnataka as well for the sequel.

The only thing missing here is the contribution from the Hindi audience, which is extremely volatile for the time being. If this box can be ticked, then there is every single chance that Jailer 2 can make it to this 1000 crore bracket.

The film certainly has the technical values and commercial packaging to go berserk at the box office. It all comes down to the way the film is received by the box office audience.

Rajini has Coolie which has Hindi star Aamir Khan in the lead role. If this film works well in Hindi, it will naturally build the anticipation for Jailer 2. So there’s a lot riding on this Coolie as well now.
