Box Office: 70 Cr Done, Rs 250 Cr To Go

Superstar Rajinikanth’s social actioner Vettaiyan released in theaters the other day and it opened to largely mixed reviews. Coming to the box office terms, here is a look at how the film fared over its opening day at the ticket counters.

The film reportedly opened with a worldwide gross of Rs 70 crore with the majority of the revenue coming from the Rs 30 crore gross opening in Tamil Nadu. The overseas box office is another major contributor.

The Telugu box office hasn’t been as receptive as the film opened on a subdued note here due to the weak promotions.

Coming to the actual box office game of Vettaiyan, the opening day tally of Rs 70 crore can be deemed a decent one. The film’s worldwide theatrical recovery tally is locked at Rs 320 crore, meaning it will have to collect another Rs 250 crore in the coming days.

The weekend will dictate how the film fares and this is a make it or break it situation. With a more firm word of mouth, the film could have certainly worked out.

The Jailer positive effect could be rubbing into this film and eventually propel to the Rs 150-160 crore gross over the weekend. A lot will depend on how the film fares over the second weekend.
