Theater Ban on YouTubers? Seriously? How Senseless!

Actor Vishal, who is also the general secretary of the Tamil Nadu actors’ union, has made a request to Tamil YouTube reviewers, which has now gone viral on social media.

Vishal, who recently participated in the launch of a Tamil movie, requested theatre owners and exhibitors not to allow YouTube reviewers inside the theatre premises for the first three days of a movie’s release.

Instead, if YouTube reviewers truly wanted to take a review, they could watch the movie in theatres and share their review first, and then record public reactions outside the theatres.

Following this, many netizens on social media responded by pointing out that a few weeks ago, the Madras High Court dismissed a similar petition filed by the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, which had requested a ban on movie reviews during the opening weekend.

They also feel that Vishal’s request is a senseless method, as even if YouTube reviewers are not allowed to enter the theatres, they will record public reactions outside the theatres, which amounts to the same thing.

However, they suggest that YouTube reviews only affect weaker movies, whereas they are helpful for some medium-budget movies to reach the public. Therefore, despite banning them, directors and actors should work hard to deliver compelling movies.
