In a move that adds a new player to the AI language model arena in India, Elon Musk’s xAI has officially introduced Grok AI to the Indian market through X (formerly Twitter).
This subscription-based service, available exclusively to Premium+ subscribers, comes with a price tag of Rs 2,299 per month or Rs 22,900 annually, positioning it as a pricier alternative to ChatGPT Plus for smartphone users which offers two distinct modes—fun and regular.
The ‘fun’ mode delivers responses with a more light-hearted and jovial tone, while the ‘regular’ mode sticks to standard responses. Notably, Grok AI boasts a substantial advantage over other language models by tapping into real-time data from X, enabling it to provide more accurate answers on recent trends and developments.
Pricing varies based on the device used for subscription. Smartphone users opting for Grok AI will face a higher cost compared to ChatGPT Plus, whereas desktop subscribers will find it relatively more affordable at Rs 1,300 per month or Rs 13,600 annually.
Despite being in the early access stage, Grok AI has already been integrated into the top-tier X Premium+ subscription plan, offering subscribers a range of perks.
The perks include an ad-free experience on X, blue check verification, monetization capabilities, the ability to create longer posts, upload high-resolution videos, edit posts, and access features like background video playback and video downloads.
xAI claims that Grok-1, equipped with an impressive 63.2 billion parameters, surpasses the capabilities of GPT-3.5, which powers the free version of ChatGPT. Moreover, Grok-0, a previous model with 33 billion parameters, is purported to outperform Meta’s LLaMA 2, equipped with 70 billion parameters, across tasks such as HumanEval coding and middle-class math word problem-solving.
Concerns were raised in November when users noticed phrases within Grok AI indicating a possible connection to OpenAI’s code. However, Igor Babuschkin, the chief engineer of xAI, addressed these concerns promptly, clarifying that Grok has been trained on a vast dataset comprising internet-generated data, including some from GPT.
As Grok AI makes its entrance into the Indian market, the competition in the AI language model space heats up, offering users more choices and features to enhance their digital interactions.
