After MGM detected the cyberattack on its computer system, it shut down the targeted system to prevent any further damage as a safety precaution.
Casino industry is always a target in the eyes of cybercriminals because of the confidential data of clients they possess. These hackers hold this information until a ransom is paid by the company. This is not the first time MGM has been a victim of a cyberattack. In 2019 it was a victim of a data breach that affected 10.6 million people.
The system is in offline mode until the issue is resolved. MGM is working with cyber experts and the FBI to fix this issue.
