Google’s AI Spreads Misinformation About Israel-Hamas Conflict

Though AI is experiencing a significant surge, there is also a rise in misinformation. While no AI platform can guarantee the trust of users in terms of reliability or accuracy, some misinformation is more harmful than others.

This time, it’s Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing that create a hot mess. It revolves around the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and severely undermines the credibility of AI chatbots and platforms.

Chatbots often have a tough time in the office when it comes to providing recent news, and this time, it’s as bad as it gets. To test the progress of AI, a series of questions were asked to Bing and Bard regarding the conflict, and the results are shocking.

During these tests, Google’s Bard mentioned on Monday that “both sides are committed” to maintaining peace. Similarly, Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing Chat stated on Tuesday that “the ceasefire indicates the cessation of immediate bloodshed.”

Furthermore, when Bard was asked about the death toll on October 9th, the AI replied that the death toll reached 1300 on October 11th. The technology is indeed advanced enough to access future dates, but this incident is not only concerning but also misleading and couldn’t be more dismal.

The reports of inaccuracy are increasing day by day, and the makers should do something to limit it. With the growing user base, the servers are also undoubtedly busy. However, if not addressed soon, it can cause more harm than we can expect.
