How Much Time & Money Do Indians Spend On Gaming?

In a digital age that thrives on connectivity, Indians have carved out their online havens. A groundbreaking study by The Esya Centre, titled ‘New-Age Digital Consumption: A Survey of Social Media, OTT Content and Online Gaming,’ unveiled intriguing trends that underscore the nation’s digital preferences.

Surprisingly, the study revealed that the virtual realm of social media captivates users for an average of 194 minutes daily, overshadowing the time spent on OTT platforms and online gaming, which stood at 44 and 46 minutes respectively.

Remarkably, the report discovered that while over-the-top platforms demand a significant monetary commitment of ₹200 to ₹400 per month, users allocate less than ₹100 a month for online gaming.

Strikingly, users dedicate less than an hour a day to gaming. This financial restraint aligns with the 30% increase in participation fee for online games, potentially causing a drastic 71% decline in engagement, underscoring users’ acute price sensitivity.

The study not only delved into consumption patterns but also shed light on user sentiments.

While OTT offers solace as a stress-reliever, online gaming garners a surprising 28% of respondents who consider it pivotal for their career prospects.
