India’s Ambitious Space Vision Begins With FDI

In yet another giant leap towards strengthening the global position of the nation, India has now opened its space sector to one hundred percent foriegn investment with the new FDI Policy. This move by the GoI is expected to attract potential investors in the India Space market and promoting technological transfers.

This decision to allow 100% Foreign Direct Investments in the space sector is a smart move as it will not only be lowering entry level barriers for the foreign investors but will also be permitting an automatic route for the manufacturing of components, systems, satellites, ground segments, and even user segments.

The sub-sectors which consists of launch Vehicles and associated systems or sub-systems, the Creation of Spaceports can be getting FDI through automatic routes up to 49 per cent while as for the manufacturing and operation sectors, the bar is set at a high 74 percent.

Another thing to note down is that India is also going to have its first private sector made spy satellite built by TASL(Tata Advanced Systems Ltd) and is set to be launched in a SpaceX rocket coming April. The satellite will be used by the defence forces in order to get discreet informations on various critical points across the geography of the nation.

All these set of events are a clear indication of India being set on its path of becoming the next bang in the Space Industry. With policies getting more liberal, and the inclusion of private sector it is only a matter of time till the country starts competing with the prevalent global giants and hopefully, even surpass them.
