Netflix Won’t Make Seperate App For Apple’s Vision Pro

According to Mark Gurman’s latest newsletter, Netflix will not be developing a separate app for Apple’s newest innovation, the Vision Pro. Instead, the company will offer its iPad app for the new VR headset.

Every app developer had two options: either create a standalone version for the headset or allow the iPad app to run on the device. Like numerous other developers, Netflix chose the latter option.

The main reason cited for this decision is the limited number of users who have opted for the headset. Nonetheless, Netflix does provide distinct experiences for different Apple products, such as the iPad, Mac, and iPhone.

Now, before you jump to conclusions, keep in mind that Netflix will still allow streaming of their content on the Vision Pro. However, the concern lies with the overall experience provided.

Netflix does offer a VR experience on the Meta Quest Range, featuring a phenomenal room environment for watching content. However, for Vision Pro users, they will only have access to a dark room with a big screen for streaming their favorite shows.

On the surface, this decision may have more negative implications for the Vision Pro than for Netflix. After all, the main goal of the Vision Pro is to offer an unprecedented way of streaming entertainment. But with Netflix and some other platforms ditching out of developing a standalone app for Apple’s device, it may cause some amount of harm, which is indeed a significant concern.
