No Creepy Nudes On Instagram DMs

A new nudity-protection function in DMs has been introduced on the social media platform Meta to protect user’s misuses of personal images. The function asks users to reconsider sending photos of themselves in the nude and blurs images that are identified as such.

Teens under the age of eighteen will always have it switched on by default, and adults will receive a notification urging them to do the same. By preventing users from providing nude photos to others to share their own, Meta hopes to safeguard consumers against scams.

Users can choose whether or not to view a warning screen and an automatically blurred image featuring nudity is presented to them.

The business is also creating technology that uses a variety of signals to detect possible sextortion frauds. Instagram is researching techniques to make it more difficult for suspected sextortion accounts to identify teen accounts in search results.

Currently, Instagram will not display the “Message” option on a minor’s profile. In addition, Meta is experimenting with new pop-up notifications for users who could have engaged with an account that it deleted due to sextortion.

CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg expressed regret to the families of children who had experienced cyberbullying on its platforms, saying that nobody should have to endure what their family has.
