Tesla has already started making cars for India, and some should arrive there by the end of the year. We’re not sure which Tesla model they’ll export yet, though. Right now, Tesla only makes the Model Y in Germany.

Tesla’s plan for India also includes building a charging network, spending additional money on top of the $2 billion set aside for the factory, and buying more parts locally.

Tesla is considering two states for its factory: Maharashtra and Gujarat, where Prime Minister Modi is from. They plan to finish building the factory in two years.

Tata Motors is the main electric car company in India right now. However, the Indian government aims for 30% of all cars sold in India to be electric by 2030.

Tesla sees India as a big opportunity, and they’re working hard to make it happen.
