To fulfill the dreams of 140 crore Indians, Indian Prime Minister Modi announced the selection of four astronauts: Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla. After completing their training in Russia, the four astronauts have been receiving instruction at an ISRO facility.

As the first human spaceflight mission from India, Gaganyaan, all astronaut-electors would be test pilots. In 2021, they had training in Russia following Covid-19 delays. As the four finish their training programs in India, they have been getting support from several organizations. The Indians now control the rocket, timing, and countdown.
